I have a multidimensional array like this:

$array = array(
array('id' => 1, 'value' => 100),
array('id' => 2, 'value' => 200),
array('id' => 1, 'value' => 300),
array('id' => 3, 'value' => 400),
array('id' => 2, 'value' => 500)
);
I want to sum the 'value' column for each 'id' separately. So the result should be:

$result = array(
array('id' => 1, 'total' => 400),
array('id' => 2, 'total' => 700),
array('id' => 3, 'total' => 400)
);
How can I achieve this in PHP?
