Yes, this issue has been reported before. The `trim()` function in PHP 8.1 has been updated to behave differently than in previous versions. It now trims all ASCII control characters, including spaces, tabs, and newlines, from the beginning and end of a string.

If you want to preserve the old behavior of `trim()` and only trim whitespace characters, you can use the `ltrim()` and `rtrim()` functions instead.

Here is an example of how you can use `ltrim()` and `rtrim()` to achieve the same result as the old `trim()` function:

$string = "\tHello, World!\n";

$trimmedString = rtrim(ltrim($string));

echo $trimmedString; // Output: Hello, World!

This will trim only whitespace characters from the beginning and end of the string, preserving the expected behavior.
